Sean Dyche believes there has been a change within club fanbases, including Everton.

Sean Dyche is still not back in football management yet, after leaving Everton in January 2025, just hours before the club took on Peterborough United in the FA Cup.

Dyche had been under pressure, and a meeting with new owners The Friedkin Group was held. And it was determined by both parties that he had reached the end of the road. David Moyes was named as his successor shortly after.

The view of Dyche’s stint at Everton is rather mixed.

But he is certainly proud of the job he did, and he has been speaking about how the expectations from fans have changed, with one demographic increasing the pressure.

Sean Dyche suggests younger generation of Everton fans have increased expectations

When Dyche did leave Everton, it was difficult to find anyone who felt that he should stay. It just had that feel that it was his time to go.

The pressure had certainly become quite intense at the end, and Dyche believes that the younger generation of Everton fan helped to crank it up.

He said on the OLBG YouTube channel: “The Toffees, like most clubs now, I think there’s this crossover of fans, I really do. The Toffees as I call them, which are the old school real fans who have been there for donkey’s years.

“And the new fans, we need them, but their viewpoint is completely different, it’s like life now on their phone, 20 seconds just scroll, scroll, scroll. It’s just the way it is. I think that’s one thing about it, how it’s changed.

“I’ve said recently, and a lot of Everton fans have commended me for this bit. No matter what people think, It’s because at the end they want me out. But I couldn’t be more proud of the job I did there, I mean it sincerely.”

“Staff, the players, we were going through stuff you wouldn’t believe at that football club. That was difficult to swallow that and accept that the pressure was coming on me to go.”

Dyche also claimed that Everton nearly got Scott McTominay in a swap deal, which would certainly have been interesting.

Dyche had pressure from all sides at Everton

The suggestion here is that the younger generation of fans played a part in raising the expectations and increasing the pressure, but realistically, towards the end, fans of all ages were not satisfied with the direction of travel.

Ultimately, Everton were stumbling along under Dyche and people were rightly getting a bit agitated, wanting to see the team kick on.

Expectations were high for most people, not just from the younger supporters.
