Liverpool clashed with Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday afternoon as Andoni Iraola aimed to secure his first competitive win as manager.

The Reds showed glimpses of promise on the opening weekend but were ultimately unable to earn more than a point against Newcastle United.

In a bid to improve this time around and avoid a repeat of last season’s shock loss to Nottingham Forest, Iraola made a couple of changes to his squad, including dropping Rio Ngumoha to the bench for summer signing Victor Munoz.

When all was said and done, Liverpool once again failed to pick up a win, being held to a 2-2 draw.

Here’s how the player’s rated.

Andoni Iraola’s search for a first Premier League win goes on. What positives are you taking from that display? 🤔

Hopefully it's a work in progress. We started last season poorly and just didn't improve. Just need to see that positive trajectory

Wonder how long before Bradley is back. Might end up turning to Araujo or Gomez but not sure if that helps the balance of the team

I think Kerkez will be fine, I feel for Frimpong a bit because he doesn't really suit a back four

Liverpool player ratings vs Nottingham Forest

Alisson: 3

Made a world-class save right at the end of the first half to stop Forest going 2-0 up but then gave away a penalty, which Forest scored.

Jeremie Frimpong: 3

Looks much more suited to being a right-winger than a right-back. Was pushed incredibly high up the pitch for most of the game, which did leave Jacquet slightly exposed at times. Crossing was mixed, and he was offside in the build-up to Wirtz’s goal.

Jeremy Jacquet: 6

Was much more aggressive than last weekend and wasn’t afraid to throw himself into blocks. Passing was mixed at times as he continues to try and build a connection with Frimpong.

Virgil van Dijk: 6

A quiet but solid display from the Liverpool veteran. Was good on the ball and largely kept Forest’s attackers on their right-hand side at bay.

Milos Kerkez: 3

Did not create enough going forward. We are yet to really see the Kerkez that once caused countless teams problems at Bournemouth.

Alexis Mac Allister: 5

Made a couple of line-breaking passes after returning to the side, but Liverpool fans probably wanted to see him doing a bit more against a low Forest block.

Dominik Szoboszlai: 5

Did not have a terrible game, but it does feel like he is wasted in a double pivot at times. Liverpool would probably get more out of him further forward, but that position currently belongs to Wirtz. Ended the tie at right-back after changes in the 71st minute.

Florian Wirtz: 6

Was unlucky to have his goal ruled out because Jeremie Frimpong was offside. Looked far more involved after that. Hopefully he can build on Saturday’s display.

Victor Munoz: 6

Should have done much better with his chance at the end of the first half. Brilliant strike to make it 2-2 but was very quiet until that moment.

Cody Gakpo: 6

Started the game out of position on the right and did not offer an awful lot in the first half, but produced a good assist to make it 1-1.

Alexander Isak: 6

Had a lively start to the game but does appear to have lost a yard of pace following his injury woes. Took his goal well, which should at least build his confidence a bit.

Substitutes

Rio Ngumoha: 4

Caused Forest a few problems when he came on.

Ronald Araujo: 4

Filled in for Jacquet well during his short time on the pitch.

Kostas Tsimikas: 4

Had a quiet cameo off the bench but was no worse than Kerkez.

Ryan Gravenberch: 6

Was pushed high up the pitch when he came on and threw himself about. Needs to be in the XI next week.

Trey Nyoni: 3

Saw very little of the ball when he came on.
