What the Hungarian press said about Dominik Szoboszlai shouldn’t surprise Liverpool fans

While the international break has given the likes of Florian Wirtz a chance to reset, Liverpool now look set to face Man City without some key stars. Has the international break helped or hindered the Reds and why? Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak look set to miss the game against Man City 🙃

There’s another one in like 5 weeks time anyway…

Bad time as Isak picked up a knock and Gakpo, who has been our best player, is out for a while. I HATE international breaks

Feels like the longest ever break, but the next one is not too far either😭😭 this definitely doesn't help anyone

Dominik Szoboszlai’s stats after Hungary beat Ukraine in UEFA Nations League

To nobody’s surprise, it was stated by Hungarian media outlet Nemzeti Sport that you could have played Szoboszlai ‘anywhere’ on the pitch; that’s how good he was.

The Liverpool midfielder played in a deeper midfield role, as this UEFA Nations League encounter sprang to life in the second half.

Hungary opened the scoring through Máté Tóth, but Roman Yaremchuk would equalise seven minutes from time, before the away side struck the winner minutes later.

That’s when Szoboszlai was taken off, with his Hungary side picking up a crucial three points because it puts them in second place in League B Group 2 of the UEFA Nations League, one point behind Northern Ireland.

Nemzeti Sport handed him a rating of seven for his performance, and it shouldn’t be a surprise to Liverpool fans about what they said:

‘Actually, we could have placed him anywhere on the pitch (except for the goal post), because he stood out everywhere. In his case, this exemplary will and attitude constantly elevates him above the field, and now you could also see how humbly he works under the feet of his hardworking teammates – he kept the interests of the team in mind in everything.’

Moving on to the stats, after earning an incredible rating of 9.3 by Sofascore for Szoboszlai’s performance against Georgia, that rating was just below seven this time around.

Even on what seems like an average day for Liverpool’s versatile star, he is still pulling up strong numbers.
