Just two minutes later Dembele headed in from Doue’s cross, with this game proving so far to be an unhappy return for City’s former manager Pep Guardiola.

By the half-hour mark, Vitinha struck to make it 3-0 and surely game over.

Pep Guardiola back to show support for Manchester City

Guardiola left City in the summer to be replaced by Enzo Maresca, but the recent scandal involving the 115 charges against the club has prompted the Spaniard to come back and show his support.

Posting a few days after the guilty verdict was delivered last month, Guardiola sent the following message on X: “I want every single @ManCity fan to know I am here; more than ever. I am, always have been, always will, be behind my club, my owner, my chairman, Ferran, the players, staff, Enzo and you, our unique supporters. Let me be clear: we will get through this together. I love you all.”

According to Guillem Balague, Guardiola wanted to be “a part of today”.

“Pep arrived to the stadium directly from airport ten minutes ago,” Balague said at 7.30pm on Wednesday night. “He is sharing time with VIPs at the Chairman's suite

”And will go after the game (maybe go down to the changing room after to say hello to both managers and City players) He wanted to make sure to be part of today.”

Well, now he’s part of City trailing 3-0 before we’re even at half time.
