Liverpool are hoping to see off rivals by making an early move for Club Tijuana attacking midfielder Gilberto Mora, according to reports.
TEAMtalk claim that the Reds have been holding fresh talks with the Mexican international’s agents, as well as his club, following initial enquiries.
The Merseysiders know there is fierce competition for Mora, with Arsenal in particular said to be “serious contenders” for his signature.
Various other Premier League teams, including Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City, have also shown some interest in the teenager.
Why is there a scramble for Mora’s signature?
The midfielder turned 18 yesterday, which means he is now eligible for a move abroad both under FIFA regulations and UK visa rules.
Mora is set to be a target for a whole host of clubs during the January transfer window, so Liverpool want to get an agreement in place well before the New Year.
They still need to convince the player that a move to Anfield is the right one for his development. Mora is currently a regular starter for his club side, and that has allowed him to make his breakthrough at international level too. Despite his young age, he featured for Mexico at the World Cup and faced England in the last 16 of the tournament.

Liverpool know the player’s asking price
As well as getting the approval of Mora and his representatives, Andoni Iraola’s side will also have to reach an agreement with Club Tijuana.
TEAMtalk report that the Liga MX side’s current valuation is approximately £30m, and with the level of interest in the player, they will feel that a team will match it. It will be up to new sporting director Julian Ward to decide whether he is worth that much.
