Victor Wembanyama wants nothing but to win it all with the San Antonio Spurs this upcoming NBA season.
In an ESPN story by Michael C. Wright, the French superstar set the record straight about his and the Spurs' primary target for next year.
"We have some goals between us that we're going to keep between us as teammates," Wembanyama said. "We won the West last year. We don't want to do anything less this year.
"We want to be the first seed, and then we want to keep fighting for this top spot."
Victor Wembanyama, Spurs ready to run it back
The San Antonio Spurs took the entire league by storm in the previous 2025-26 season. As Victor Wembanyama finally reached his superstar potential, the Spurs instantly became a powerhouse after recent seasons of rebuilding.
With Wembanyama leading the way along with De'Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, and rising star Dylan Harper, San Antonio won 62 games. They made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals and ousted defending champion OKC Thunder in seven games.
The Spurs appeared to be destined to make it to the mountaintop, but a humbling experience hit them in the NBA Finals. From fumbling their home-court advantage, surrendering deficits, and failing to close out, San Antonio suffered a painful five-game title series loss to the New York Knicks.
On behalf of the Spurs, Wembanyama couldn't be more excited to run it back and finally get the job done for San Antonio. Last offseason served as a crucial unwinding of how things unfolded, while the front office landed a new enforcer by signing star veteran Tobias Harris to a two-year deal.
The Spurs' quest to win the 2027 NBA title begins Tuesday in a highly anticipated matchup with the Thunder.
