Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall admits he couldn't spend any more time of his career 'stagnating' at Chelsea after struggling for regular gametime following his move from Leicester City.

‌

‌

The 28-year-old signed for the Blues in 2024 having worked alongside former head coach Enzo Maresca at the Foxes, but lasted just one season at Stamford Bridge.

‌

Chelsea spent a reported £30million to sign Dewsbury-Hall, but he made just 13 appearances in the Premier League, making 36 in all competitions with a further 15 of those in the Europa Conference League.

The midfielder left London after just one season, joining Everton for an undisclosed fee, understood to be in the region of £29m.

Speaking to the Guardian about his departure from Stamford Bridge, Dewsbury-Hall said: "I’m in the prime years of my career. I couldn’t afford to spend more years stagnating."

The former Chelsea has impressed since his move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium and has caught the eye of Thomas Tuchel.

Dewsbury-Hall revealed he was on the list of players in contention for a call up to the Three Lions' World Cup squad, and if he continues his current trajectory, his departure from the Blues could be a transfer regret.

"I know I’m the closest I have ever been now," the midfielder said. "You get a message two weeks before the squad is announced.

"I got one for the long list for the World Cup and I’ve had one for these next games. It’s nice. It means you are doing OK. It’s a long, long message.

"It tells you that it’s a legal requirement for us [the Football Association] to tell you in advance that you are in contention and to be available for these dates.

"It’s a good feeling because you think: ‘OK, I am close,’ but you know you have to keep pushing it to the last minute. It’s up to me.

"It’s got to be me that forces his hand to choose me. It’s not going to be given to me."
