Gill Clark Gill Clark is the site manager of Barca Blaugranes and joined in 2017. She has worked in sports media as a writer and editor for the best part of two decades and has been in love with the beautiful game for as long as she can remember.
Hamza Abdelkarim’s role at Barcelona is reportedly creating some internal debate at the club due to his lack of minutes so far in 2026-27.
The Egypt international has been with the first team squad but competition for places is fierce and means he has only played 12 minutes so far.
Hansi Flick has Raphinha as his first choice No. 9, with Gabriel Jesus as back-up, but has also tried Dani Olmo up front against Galatasaray in midweek.
According to Diario Sport, the situation is provoking some discussion as Barcelona are well aware he needs more minutes, particularly so that he can get used to the team’s style of play.
Hamza could drop down to Barcelona Atletic to play for Juliano Belletti’s side which would allow him to play regular football and continue his development.
However, it’s not clear yet if that will happen right now or if Hansi Flick will decide to keep Abdelkarim with the first team for the rest of the season.
