Harry Kane is set to sign a new contract at Bayern Munich in the coming days and weeks. But when the England captain eventually leaves, where will he go? Tim Sherwood weighed up Chelsea’s chances.

It’s been three years since Kane left boyhood side Tottenham to join Bayern Munich, and he’s gone to a completely new level with the German outfit. In 156 appearances for Bayern, he’s scored 154 goals.

He’s also created 37 more goals, winning the Bundesliga twice. This season, he’s a real favourite to win the Ballon d’Or, already having a hand in 12 goals in nine Bayern outings. But where will he end up?

Harry Kane’s current deal at Bayern Munich ends in June 2027

Kane is out of contract at Bayern at the end of the season. But Bayern president Herbert Hainer has said that he is “very optimistic” that Kane will put pen to paper on a new deal. It is unclear how long it is for.

There is a strong belief that Kane wants to finish his career in the Premier League, to give him the chance to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League record. He needs 48 goals in England’s top flight to beat Shearer.

Tim Sherwood names the club he thinks Harry Kane will join

With Kane likely to return to England at some stage, question marks over who he will join are starting to rise. Man City is hardly an option now, if their appeal is unsuccessful. Man United are struggling again.

How would you compare Chelsea’s sporting directors to their counterparts at other English clubs? Have they really been that bad? 🤔

Literally! Only Brighton and Brentford and perhaps Leeds who I can think of who are run well off the top of my head, although they don’t have the pressure of a big 6

On The Overlap Daily, Tim Sherwood told Jamie Redknapp that a return to Tottenham makes the most sense because Kane – who was given his debut by Sherwood – is never going to join Arsenal or Chelsea.

“Kane will look for a way back to the Premier League, so he can break Shearer’s record. Will he go to Man United? Not at the moment; he won’t because he can’t win anything. He’ll probably sign a new deal.

“Stay at Bayern for another year and a half. Then he will look for a way back. At the moment, he would [pick Tottenham over Man United]. Why would he choose Man United over Tottenham?” Sherwood said.

“He might as well go to a club where he’s loved. If there’s an opportunity to go to another club, apart from Arsenal and Chelsea, because he’s never going there. I think Tottenham finish above Man United.”

Would Chelsea even want to sign Kane?

Any club would love to sign Kane, regardless of their current players. This is a game-changer, one of the top-five players in the world, in the prime of his life and ageing like a fine wine. A Ballon d’Or favourite.

But Chelsea have one of the best strikers in the world, too. Joao Pedro is producing Erling Haaland-like numbers. As long as Pedro remains at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea do not need to sign a starting striker.

Could Kane drop deep as he gets older? Absolutely. His range of passing is immense, and there is a chance he becomes a no.10 down the line. Kane improves anyone, but Chelsea don’t need a striker.
