If anybody knows anything about performing on the biggest stage as a youngster, it’s Michael Owen.
During his playing days, Owen was one of the best teenagers to have played the game, including ripping up the Premier League in the colours of Liverpool.
On Sunday, for Liverpool’s defeat to Manchester City, Koumas won a lot of plaudits for his performance, with Owen telling Premier League Productions that he was ‘one of the most threatening forward players’ on the pitch.
That’s high praise from Owen because while Liverpool had injury problems, you still had the likes of Bradley Barcola and Florian Wirtz on the pitch for the home side.

Andoni Iraola has been called the ‘right man at the wrong time’ for Liverpool 😑 What are your thoughts on Iraola and the current squad? Patience is key, right?

I agree on Scott, I just don’t see it. The issue with the likes of Mora is that it could take them a long time to get up to speed, have to be really patient if you’re aiming for them to be regular starters. Smit less so as he’s played a lot more football, but still a jump from the Dutch league
Tijuana are looking 30 million for Mora James a complete bargain then Kees Smit available for 40 to 45 million, they are both incredible talents for their age and they could easily be world class talents at Liverpool, nyoni was outstanding earlier against Lask, then sign Lamine camara in January, Alex Scott is not worth the 100 million, Chelsea can have him.
@keithsmyth376 I like that actually Keith, get after the young talents and build them into superstars. Has always suited us better
Michael Owen says Lewis Koumas ‘didn’t look out of place’ as a Liverpool starter
First of all, it’s great to see Andoni Iraola showing faith in Koumas, because he could have easily played Barcola down the middle.
But the fact that Iraola showed faith in Koumas, just like he did for Liverpool’s League Cup win over Spurs, proves that there is serious quality there.
Owen shared that he knows the Wales international ‘personally’, and thinks he has a ‘bright future’ on Merseyside.
It also needs to be noted that Liverpool were the better team before Ryan Gravenberch’s sending-off, and what happened after is no fault of Koumas, who went off the pitch when the scoreline read 2-0.
Either way, Owen, who dealt with the immense pressure of playing for Liverpool as a teenager, explained what traits Koumas has that he very much appreciates, and he is right.
“I think Koumas is a bright young prospect,” said Owen.
“I love his attitude; his energy was good. I thought he certainly didn’t look out of place, and against Manchester City, with how everyone played, you could argue he was one of the most threatening forward players, so I had great pleasure seeing him do well.
“I know him personally and hope he has a bright future at Liverpool.”
