Liverpool have spent the opening weeks of the season adjusting to change.
The club dismissed Arne Slot after a fifth-place finish and no silverware in 2025-26, and Andoni Iraola took charge as head coach in June.
The squad has changed too. Liverpool signed Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain for a reported £124m following the departure of club legend Mohamed Salah.
Injuries have thinned the group further.
Alexander Isak, Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai are all out with respective injuries.
Results have swung sharply. Manchester City won 3-0 at Anfield on Sunday, with Ryan Gravenberch sent off for a second yellow card.
On Wednesday, Liverpool won 6-3 at LASK Linz, with Barcola scoring his first Champions League hat-trick.
Attention is now turning to midfield recruitment.
According to Sky Sports, Liverpool retain a serious interest in Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott. Bournemouth’s stance on selling him is softening as he continues to turn down offers of a new contract.
Sky Sports reports that an offer above £80m, with add-ons, would have to be taken seriously in January. Bournemouth may be open to a sale if they are practically safe from relegation.
“Liverpool retain a serious interest in Alex Scott, with Bournemouth’s stance on selling him softening as he continues to turn down offers of a new contract,” Sky Sports said.
“An offer above £80m, with add-ons, would have to be taken seriously in January. Bournemouth may be open to a sale if they are practically safe from relegation.
“Scott will not push for a move but is keen to explore his options with bigger clubs. Chelsea also remain seriously interested.”
Chelsea had a bid of £60m, rising to £64m with add-ons, rejected in the summer. Scott’s contract runs until 2028, and he has reportedly turned down new contract offers from Bournemouth.
According to reports, Liverpool admire Alex Scott but have not decided whether to move for him. The club is still establishing its transfer targets under new sporting director Julian Ward.
Iraola knows the 23-year-old well from their time together at Bournemouth. Scott made more tracking runs than anyone in the Premier League last season, with 184, according to Opta Analyst.
Scott’s fitness may affect the timeline.
He withdrew from the England squad with a quadriceps injury, and is expected to be out for six to eight weeks.
Bournemouth’s steadfast refusal to sell Alex Scott is softening, Sky Sports News has been told, with the England midfielder continuing to refuse offers to sign a new contract.
If a big offer came in for him in January, it is something the club would have to consider. https://t.co/fs5nbgfwIF
