Bradley Barcola ended his wait for a Liverpool goal with a hat-trick in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The winger had gone six appearances without a goal or assist since his £123m move from Paris Saint-Germain.
Liverpool travelled to Austria to face LASK on matchday two of the league phase. They had lost 3-0 at home to Manchester City three days earlier.
Ronald Araujo opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, heading in a Kostas Tsimikas corner for his first goal for the club. Barcola struck two minutes later, finishing from 12 yards for his first Liverpool goal.
He added a second in the 37th minute from a Florian Wirtz pass, and Liverpool led 3-0 at half-time. They had 19 shots in the first half, a record for an away team in a single half of a Champions League match.
Jeremie Frimpong headed in a Tsimikas cross in the 51st minute to make it 4-0. Robert Ljubicic pulled one back for LASK before Barcola tapped in a Frimpong cross in the 66th minute to complete his hat-trick.
Lewis Koumas added a sixth, and LASK scored twice more in the closing stages to make it 6-3.
He is the first Liverpool player to score a hat-trick in any competition since Luis Diaz against Bayer Leverkusen in November 2024.
UEFA’s technical observers also named him Player of the Match.
Individual recognition has now followed. UEFA has named Barcola Champions League Player of the Week for matchday two.
Nicolo Tresoldi of Club Brugge finished second in the vote. Harry Kane of Bayern Munich was third and Lamine Yamal of Barcelona fourth.
Tresoldi, 22, scored a hat-trick in Club Brugge’s 4-3 win at Inter Milan, the club’s first points of this season’s competition. The first of his three goals was a penalty.
Kane scored twice in Bayern’s 3-3 draw away to Viking. Yamal did not score but set up two goals in Barcelona’s 4-1 win at Galatasaray.
The award follows a slow start to life at Anfield. Barcola made his Liverpool debut as a substitute in a 2-0 win at Ipswich on September 4.
Before the LASK match, manager Andoni Iraola said wingers and strikers are often judged only on goals. He added that he did not believe Barcola was in a bad moment.
Barcola won the Champions League twice with PSG. Liverpool play at Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday, October 17, then host Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday, October 20.
