Mikel Arteta to make five Arsenal changes vs Nottm Forest as £30m star returns

Arsenal take on Nottingham Forest in Sunday’s Premier League game at City Ground.

The Gunners returned to winning ways in the league with a 2-1 victory over Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium last weekend.

They followed it up with a 3-0 Champions League win over Lille at home, and should be full of confidence ahead of the Forest game.

The City Ground has not been a happy hunting ground for Arsenal, with just one win in the last six meetings.

The Gunners have failed to score in the last two trips (0-0), but should still fancy picking up three points this time.

We anticipate manager Mikel Arteta to make five changes from the European win over Lille.

The first change could be at right-back with Ben White replacing Jurrien Timber. Timber made his first Champions League appearance of the season on Tuesday and made a huge impression, scoring the opening goal in the 64th minute.

Despite this, we expect the Dutchman to drop to the bench as his workload needs to be managed after a lengthy groin injury lay-off. White has been the league regular for the Gunners this campaign, and should be reinstated at right-back.

Similarly, Riccardo Calafiori should come in for Myles Lewis-Skelly at left-back. The Italian has had a fine start to the season with four goal contributions, including a crucial equaliser against Leeds last weekend. He was an unused substitute against Lille, which clearly suggests that he will be back in the XI on Sunday.

Lewis-Skelly may have to settle for a bench role with Declan Rice and Bruno Guimaraes having shone together lately. Rice provided the assist for Guimaraes’ winning goal as a substitute against Leeds. The latter was also brilliant in midweek, winning nine duels and making seven recoveries.

The other three changes should happen in attack. Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard are poised to be reinstated in the right wing and number 10 positions respectively after coming off the bench against Lille.

Odegaard, signed for £30 million from Real Madrid in 2021, was brilliant in his cameo alongside Saka and Havertz against Lille. He completely shifted the momentum with his chance creation and high press.

Meanwhile, Viktor Gyokeres barely used the opportunity to start up front. Kai Havertz came off the bench to provide an assist, and the German is expected to lead the line at City Ground, replacing Gyokeres.

Eberechi Eze had a good outing on Tuesday night with his first goal of the season, but Noni Madueke could get the nod on the left wing, having played well in both matches since the international break.

The former Chelsea man provided a crucial cross for the equaliser against Leeds last weekend. He toiled hard as a right winger in midweek before delivering the assist for Timber to break the deadlock.

Madueke has more credit in the bank from his performances and could start as the left winger. Mikel Merino, who started as the number 10 against Les Dogues, looks poised to drop to the bench along with Gyokeres and Eze.
