Liverpool Are ‘Increasingly Likely’ To Sign Midfielder In January As Ward Draws Up 3 Man Target List

Liverpool are set to reinforce their midfield during the January transfer window, according to reports.

TEAMtalk claim that the Reds are “increasingly likely” to make an approach for one of three players on their shortlist.

Sporting director Julian Ward is believed to be prioritising a move for Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, but if that deal proves unfeasible, two alternatives have been picked out.

Monaco’s Lamine Camara and Roma’s Manu Kone are both deemed realistic targets for January.

Liverpool’s budget could determine which player is signed

Despite reports that Bournemouth are willing to sell Scott in the New Year, their price tag is eye-watering. A fee in the region of £80m to £100m could be needed, despite the England international nearing the final 18 months of his contract.

Kone would be slightly cheaper at approximately £65m to £75m, while Camara is expected to cost the lowest amount, with his valuation set closer to €55m or £47m.

Chelsea could cause problems for the Reds

As well as price, competition from elsewhere will give the Merseysiders pause for thought. Scott, Camara and Kone have all been pursued by other Premier League teams.

Kone was heavily linked with Manchester United in the summer, while Camara is said to be on the radar of Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Brighton.

However, Chelsea have made bids for ALL THREE players in recent months. A deal collapsed on September 1st for Camara, while the Blues had a transfer blocked by Roma for Kone on the same day.

Scott is, however, reportedly their main target for January, and if the Blues do stump up the cash, and Liverpool are not prepared to match them, the Reds may be forced into exploring moves for Camara or Kone instead.
