76ers two new targets revealed after losing backup center to injury

The Philadelphia 76ers have been linked to two key centers after losing Ariel Hukporti to a season-ending torn Achilles injury.

According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Sixers are a team to monitor for both Jericho Sims and Moussa Cisse.

Jericho Sims to the 76ers?

The Philadelphia 76ers join the Los Angeles Lakers in a potential pursuit of Jericho Sims, as the Milwaukee Bucks big man has been subjected to preliminary talks to be dealt for Dalton Knecht.

Sims is a possible victim of the Bucks' looming plans to cut their roster to 15 ahead of the new NBA season. He averaged 5.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in 67 games last season, playing 19.7 minutes and shooting a highly consistent 78.4% from the field.

Despite concerns that the Sixers are limited financially, Fischer insisted that Sims remains a candidate for Philadelphia.

"Sims is another name to monitor for Philadelphia despite the fact that the Sixers, as we covered in the Sunday Best notes, can't afford another standard contract and stay beneath the first apron until early December unless they also shed roughly $600,000 in salary in the process."

Moussa Cisse another option for Sixers?

Moussa Cisse is also a piece that the Philadelphia 76ers could consider in the wake of the young big man's uncertain future in the Dallas Mavericks.

As Dallas continues to explore ways to extend the run of veteran Dwight Powell as the longest-tenured Maverick, Cisse could be released by the franchise.

Cisse averaged 4.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks in 13.9 minutes per game across 38 appearances for Dallas last year. The New York Knicks signed him to a two-year, $4.7 million offer sheet this past offseason, but the Mavs matched it to keep him.

"The Mavericks' Moussa Cisse is another name to potentially file away for the Sixers after the loss to Ariel Hukporti to a season-ending Achilles tear. Cisse's availability, mind you, likely depends on what Dallas decides to do with its final roster spot.

"The Mavericks' matched the Knicks' offer sheet to Cisse in restricted free agency in July and guaranteed his $2.2 million salary for the coming season by keeping Cisse on the roster beyond Oct. 1, but Dallas is also known to be exploring pathways to keep Dwight Powell on the roster to extend Powell's tenure as a Mav to a 12th season.
