The Catalan pulled the curtain on an illustrious 10-year stay at the Etihad Stadium on the final day of last season, after winning 20 major trophies, including the UEFA Champions League, six Premier League titles and three FA Cups.
Guiding Manchester City to an unprecedented Treble, Guardiola set his name in the club’s history and will undeniably go down as one of the greatest managers to grace the game.
From 593 games, Guardiola managed to guide City to wins in 423 of those matches, while only losing 93 across his decade in charge - a testament to the impact he had on the club.
Guardiola remains regular viewer of Man City games following May departure
According to The Athletic’s Sam Lee, Guardiola has watched every game so far this season, including crucial victories against Manchester United at Old Trafford and Liverpool at Anfield.
Overseeing Enzo Maresca’s largely successful start to the season, Guardiola has reportedly been referring to Manchester City as “we”, while it’s important to note that he remains working as a global ambassador with City Football Group.
After losing 3-0 against Arsenal in a damning Community Shield clash at Wembley Stadium, Maresca led an eight-game winning run that continued to silence doubters over his appointment.
The Italian has done exceptionally well in succeeding Guardiola, yielding a significant change in tactics while bringing in record-breaking signings such as Elliot Anderson and Enzo Fernandez.
A return to the Etihad Stadium against PSG
Guardiola returned to east Manchester for the first time since he left the club on a night when City lost 4-2 to back-to-back UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain.
During the game, Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele and Vitinha all scored inside the opening 32 minutes before Manchester City established a wave of second-half momentum that saw them claw two record-breaking goals back through Erling Haaland.
Maghnes Akliouche had already scored PSG’s fourth of the night, which settled the explosive tie and meant Maresca’s side were handed a reality check, but one that came with many positives.
City will now face Ipswich Town in the Premier League at 15:00 UK on Saturday, providing Maresca with the chance to rest some of his stars and equally present minutes to the likes of Ayyoub Bouaddi, Iliman Ndiaye and Allan Elias.
