Steven Gerrard has not managed a club since January 2025. It has been more than 20 months since the Liverpool legend last worked in the dugout.

He left Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq by mutual consent after 18 months in charge. Gerrard took charge of 59 games, winning 23, drawing 16 and losing 20, and the club sat 12th in the table when he left.

The Saudi job followed spells at Rangers and Aston Villa. At Rangers, Gerrard won the 2020-21 Scottish Premiership title unbeaten, ending Celtic’s long dominance. At Villa, he won 13 of 40 games before the club sacked him in October 2022.

Gerrard made 710 appearances for Liverpool and captained the club to the 2005 Champions League. He has stayed out of management since leaving Saudi Arabia, and a new report suggests his wait could be nearing an end.

According to talkSPORT, Gerrard is open to becoming Wrexham manager if the Championship club part ways with Phil Parkinson. The station reports that sporting director Steve Nickson is considering him as an option.

Scott Parker is another candidate expected to be considered. Parker has been out of work since leaving Burnley earlier this year, and he has guided Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley into the Premier League.

Wrexham have not made a managerial change. Parkinson is preparing his team for Saturday’s home game against Preston North End.

Wrexham have won two of their first 10 league games. They have 11 points from five draws and three defeats, and sit in the bottom half of the table.

Tuesday’s 2-1 home defeat to West Bromwich Albion added to the pressure. Kieffer Moore gave Wrexham the lead in the 64th minute, but Isaac Price and substitute Aune Heggebo scored five minutes apart to turn the game.

Parkinson led Wrexham to three successive promotions. Last season they finished seventh, the club’s highest league finish, and narrowly missed the play-offs. The 58-year-old is said to have an excellent relationship with owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Preston are bottom of the Championship with four points from 10 games. They appointed Graham Alexander as manager on September 28, and anything less than three points for Wrexham could increase the scrutiny on Parkinson.
