Jeremy Jacquet appeared in all seven of Liverpool’s matches in August and September, starting six of them.

His debut came in the 2-2 draw away at Newcastle United on the opening weekend.

The 21-year-old joined from Rennes in a reported £60m deal. He signed a five-year contract after Liverpool agreed the transfer earlier this year.

Jacquet was part of a back line that kept three consecutive Premier League clean sheets in September.

Those came against Ipswich Town, Fulham and Bournemouth, and he played every minute of the month. Supporters voted him Player of the Match after the 1-0 win at Bournemouth.

France manager Zinedine Zidane then gave him a first senior call-up. Jacquet played all of the 1-0 win over Belgium in Brussels on his debut on 28 September. He then played 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Italy on 2 October.

That form has now been rewarded at club level.

Jacquet has won Liverpool’s Standard Chartered Men’s Player of the Month award for August and September, decided by a poll of supporters on Liverpoolfc.com. Cody Gakpo finished second and Alexander Isak third.

Jacquet said it was “special that the fans chose me.” He also thanked his teammates and the supporters.

Opta data before the Manchester City game showed the impact of his start. He had won 76.3% of his Premier League duels (29 of 38) and averaged 2.9 tackles per 90 minutes.

Captain Virgil van Dijk said after the Bournemouth win that he wants Jacquet to “keep working and keep learning.”

Andoni Iraola said before the City game that Jacquet “has started the season very well,” but that there is still a long way to go.

The Premier League also nominated Jacquet for its September Player of the Month award. Brighton’s Pascal Gross won it.

Liverpool lost 3-0 at home to Manchester City last weekend, their first league defeat of the season.

They travel to Brentford on Saturday, with a 3pm BST kick-off.
