Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard has predicted how the Reds will fare against Brentford this weekend, while suggesting that Dominik Szoboszlai could be fit enough to feature in the match.

It comes ahead of a huge match for the Merseyside outfit against the Bees, knowing that a win could kickstart the campaign with some momentum, while a draw or defeat would continue a stuttering start in the early weeks.

In Brentford, Liverpool faces a team that is well-coached, with Keith Andrews helping to keep the team competitive in an increasingly tough Premier League environment.

It means Andoni Iraola's side will need to be at its best, but that could be without some of the best players on the pitch, as several injury and suspension concerns are present before the trip to London this weekend.

There are as many as seven absences for the match, with four players guaranteed to miss out, while three stars are doubts for the match, as everyone waits on them to return to full fitness.

That trio is Szoboszlai, Alexander Isak, and Cody Gakpo. All three players suffered small issues while away on international duty, which has seen them miss the two matches since returning from the break, but there is some hope that they could feature in the coming games.

Iraola has left the door open to all three possibly being part of the squad, with midfield icon Gerrard sharing a rumor that Szoboszlai may be available.

Speaking on TNT Sports, when asked for his prediction on the match between Liverpool and Brentford, Gerrard said: "What I would say is I think it is a really difficult game for Liverpool in the circumstances, with a lot of forward players out and injured.

"There is rumors that Szoboszlai could scrape through, which would be a big help. And I think all things considered, I think it could be a draw, a score draw. 1-1."

It would be a big boost for Iraola and Liverpool if Szoboszlai is fit enough to start against Brentford, given the midfield changes that will be enforced anyway.

Ryan Gravenberch is suspended for the game at the weekend after picking up a red card against Manchester City last time out, so a replacement will be needed. Szoboszlai would add some immediate quality there, but it all depends on how the Reds want to manage his return to action.

If the Hungarian international is unavailable, then the manager may have to turn to youngster Trey Nyoni, who started in the recent win over LASK in the Champions League.

It would be quite the game to throw him into, given the strength of Brentford, but it underlines the challenges that the head coach has for such an encounter.
