An estimated 750,000 supporters lined the streets of Liverpool on 2 June 2019 to welcome home the team that had beaten Tottenham 2-0 in Madrid to win a sixth European Cup.
Jurgen Klopp told LFC TV that day: “You see in the eyes how much it means.” He described the atmosphere as intense.
Anfield produced a similar scene on 27 April 2025, when a 5-1 win over Tottenham confirmed a 20th league title. Supporters celebrated with the players on the pitch afterwards.
Klopp left in 2024 after nearly 500 games in charge, and said leaving “this incredible place” was hard. The pull of the club has reached people who came from elsewhere, too.
Fenway Sports Group (FSG) partner Linda Pizzuti Henry has thanked Liverpool supporters in an Instagram message marking 16 years since FSG took over the club.
The post carries a “16 YEARS” graphic showing the club’s trophy collection.
She published the following message in full:
“When John and I were lucky to first became part of LFC in 2010 with Fenway Sports Group, I had no idea just how much this club, this city, and its supporters would come to mean to our family.
“What an incredible 16 years it’s been! The official close date was in October, and my first match was November 4th- a stunning Gerrard hat trick for a 3-1 win over Napoli. I was kindly welcomed and encouraged by Liverpool supporters as I set out to learn the culture of this historic club.
“We’ve celebrated many incredible victories together since then in our epic quest to win and restore the club. We experienced heartbreaking moments, met and worked with incredible people, and watched our kids grow up loving Liverpool. And we’ve celebrated the club collecting some pretty gorgeous silverware along the way (love this photo of our cabinet since 2010)
“I’ve loved learning the history and traditions of this club, hearing your stories, singing along at Anfield, and getting to know or hear from so many of you. Liverpool supporters have welcomed us, challenged us, made us laugh, and reminded us time and again what makes this club so special.
“I’m so proud of all the remarkable people who have worked so hard for Liverpool over the years. And so grateful to all of you for sharing this journey with our family – this is truly a special community.
“16 years together, and I am filled with gratitude to be part of this with all of you. You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
The post had more than 3,500 likes and 172 comments within its first hour.
Napoli led that Europa League tie on her first visit when Roy Hodgson sent Gerrard on at half-time. Gerrard scored in the 75th, 88th and 89th minutes.
Pizzuti Henry wrote about the visit at the time and described the supporters as “first class and very fun”.
Her reference to supporters challenging the owners recalls April 2021. Anger from supporters, pundits and players led Liverpool to withdraw from the proposed European Super League, and principal owner John W. Henry apologised.
Pizzuti Henry has been chief executive of Boston Globe Media Partners since 2020. She married John Henry in 2009.
She joined Henry and chairman Tom Werner on the pitch to make a presentation to Klopp after his final game in May 2024.
The Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and Club World Cup are among the trophies Liverpool have won under FSG.
