Blues Prepared For London City Test
Everton Women make the journey down to the capital this Sunday, hoping to come out triumphant against Eder Maestre’s momentous London City Lionesses.
A 2pm kick-off at The CopperJax Community Stadium, the Blues have reunited following the international break this week.
Last Time Out.
Scott Phelan’s side secured a 2-0 win against Birmingham City before the break courtesy of an astonishing brace from Ruby Mace – including a rebound from Yuka Momiki’s shot against the post and an incredible effort from the edge of the box that flew straight into the far corner.
With just one goal from Oceane Hurtre in the 17th minute for Birmingham City, the second-city outfit failed to grab an equaliser, leading the Toffees to get back to winning ways.
Courtney Brosnan started the game in goal, with a back-four of Hannah Blundell, Naomi Layzell and Hannah Silcock centrally, as well as Maz Pacheco protecting the left.
The midfield took the spotlight on the day with Mace giving Everton the glory. Beside her was Honoka Hayashi, with an attacking midfield three of Yuka Momiki, Rosa van Gool and Ornella Vignola sitting just in front.
Up top was Zara Kramzar, who took the unfamiliar striker position against the newly-promoted side. However, the Slovenian international sadly ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament in the 31st minute of the game.

The Opposition.
Sunday’s opponents sit third in the Women’s Super League table with just one loss against West Ham in their last five league games. The Lionesses sit just three points behind league-leaders Manchester City and a singular point behind Chelsea after signing Balon D’or Winner Alexia Putellas in the summer.
In their last outing, the Londoners were heavy victors following a blazing 6-1 win against high-flying Tottenham Hotspur.
The fixture highlighted Putellas’ talent as the Champions League winner netted a brace alongside Kadidiatou Diani. Goals from Danielle Van de Donk early on in the second half and a strike from Delphine Cascarino in added time completed the scoring.
London City are also flying in the Subway Players’ Cup – a 1-0 away win over Ipswich Town as well as a 2-0 away win at Leicester City seeing them start on the right foot.
A summer overhaul saw other high profile signings including England International and Euros winner, Mary Earps, former-Barcelona defender Mapi Leon and Swedish footballer Rosa Kafajj recruited.
Players To Watch.
Ruby Mace will be a strong player to reckon with for London City following her brace against Birmingham City last time out at Goodison Park.
Alongside top scorer Mace, Ornella Vignola and Yuka Momiki will also be players to watch fon Sunday – both providing assists against Birmingham City prior to the break.
