Last Word on Football brings you the latest team news and predicted lineups ahead of the Brentford vs Liverpool Premier League clash at the Gtech Community Stadium.
It’s the hosts who head into Saturday’s clash sitting higher in the league table following a superb start to the campaign from Keith Andrews’ side. Remarkably, Brentford have taken the lead in all eight matches this season – including Carabao Cup fixtures – and last week earned an impressive point at Villa Park. Given Brentford have kept four clean sheets across their last eight league games, this could be another tough game for Liverpool, who lost at the Gtech almost a year ago to the day.
The Reds endured a difficult afternoon in their last Premier League encounter, losing 3-0 to Manchester City. However, they responded with an emphatic 6-3 win over LASK in midweek and have typically performed better on the road this season. Andoni Iraola’s side have won three of four away matches this term, compared to two Anfield victories from five games.

Brentford Team News
Andrews confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Kevin Schade and Jannik Schuster, who picked up knocks at Villa, remain doubtful for this weekend.
“Jannik and Kev have been on the grass this week, and we’ll see what tomorrow brings in terms of how much they can do,” said the Irishman.
“They are different types of injuries. This week, we’ve had to navigate through a few issues. Those two are some of those who are making their way back from injury. Overall, we’re in a really good place.”
Andrews also revealed Mikkel Damsgaard and Nathan Collins are getting “closer” but implied neither will be fit for Saturday, while Kaye Furo and Josh Dasilva remain more long-term issues.

Bournemouth vs Liverpool: Football - FA Premier League - Ipswich Town FC v Liverpool FC - MD-1 KIRKBY, ENGLAND - Thursday, September 3, 2026: Liverpool s head coach Andoni Iraola speaks at a pre-match press conference, PK, Pressekonferenz at the AXA Training Centre ahead of the FA Premier League match between Ipswich Town FC and Liverpool FC.

Uncertainty continues to cloud the involvement of Dominik Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo, and Alexander Isak. All three sustained injuries while on international duty, which has prevented them from featuring in the last two games.
“It’s early for us to say, we have still tomorrow’s training,” said Iraola when asked about the trio in Thursday’s pre-match press conference. “Obviously, they were not ready for last night [against LASK].
“We have to wait and see. I think it’s still very early but the same way I said they are not available for the previous games, I leave the chance open this time, yes.”
Iraola also revealed Conor Bradley is close to joining in first-team training for the first time since sustaining a serious knee injury in January. However, Giovanni Leoni has suffered a setback in his recovery and won’t play before the November international break.
Hugo Ekitike is the only other long-term absentee, while Ryan Gravenberch is suspended following the record card against City last week.

The Last Word: Brentford vs Liverpool Match Prediction
These were the sorts of fixtures Arne Slot’s Liverpool struggled in last season, and it will be intriguing to see how Iraola’s Liverpool cope with Brentford’s physical style.
The Reds will likely dominate possession and will need to rely on the creativity of Florian Wirtz and Bradley Barcola, which has often been lacking in recent weeks. However, the latter did score a Champions League hat-trick on Wednesday, and will hope to bring that form into the league.
This could be another difficult afternoon for Liverpool, though, especially given the number of injuries they’re currently juggling.
Brentford have proven to be one of the most challenging opponents in the Premier League, a fact underlined by the 3-0 win over Chelsea before the international break. The Bees also haven’t lost at home since February and should enjoy a fitness advantage having not played in midweek, while Liverpool flew to Austria.
Whatever the outcome, expect goals on Saturday. There have been 22 in the last five meetings between the clubs.
Prediction: Brentford 3-1 Liverpool
