The Charlotte Hornets have waived Pat Connaughton, per ESPN's Shams Charania.

Connaughton will now look to find his new team ahead of Tuesday's season opener.

Hornets waive Pat Connaughton

After recent reports and speculation that the Charlotte Hornets deeply value him due to his locker room leadership and strong relationship with Kon Knueppel, Connaughton eventually became the odd man out of the franchise.

The Hornets have had to cut one player to meet the league's 15-man requirement. In the end, despite Tidjane Salaun being identified as the frontrunner to be moved, Charlotte chose to part ways with Connaughton instead.

Connaughton spent the past NBA season in Charlotte. While he only averaged 7.1 minutes and played 42 games, he embraced being the veteran presence around the young Hornets squad.

The 41st pick of the 2015 NBA Draft, he spent his first three seasons in Portland before becoming a key piece of the Giannis Antetokounmpo era in Milwaukee, helping the Bucks win the 2021 NBA title.

Across his 11 seasons in the league, Connaughton has averaged 5.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists across 637 games played.
