Joel Embiid has no plans to watch the New York Knicks celebrate and raise their 2026 championship banner.
The Philadelphia 76ers star revealed he would remain in the locker room instead of watching the Knicks' festivities at Madison Square Garden ahead of their opening-night matchup.
"No," Embiid simply said when asked if there's any significance for him to face the Knicks for the first game of their 2026-27 season. "I don't really feel like watching the whole ceremony, so I guess I'll be in the locker room.
"But it's a regular season, so it's time to go. First game, there's nothing really special about it. The way I see it is taking it day by day, slowly getting better. I've got one thing in my mind, but it's about the process that it takes to get there, so that's what I'm focused on."
76ers, Knicks matchup to highlight 2026-27 NBA opening night
Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers will travel to New York and face the Knicks to kick off the upcoming 2026-27 NBA season.
Beyond the Knicks' ring and banner-raising ceremony, the major matchup will also feature the first-ever official game of LeBron James wearing a Sixers uniform. Not to mention, the game would also be a key rematch for both teams from the previous postseason.
The Knicks notably swept the Sixers in the second round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs, eventually completing one of the most dominant title runs of all time by winning it all for the franchise after 53 years.
All eyes will be on Embiid and the 76ers as they look to crash the Knicks' championship party and start their new season on a winning note on Tuesday.
