Key takeaways from Merlin Rohl's exclusive interview with the ECHO

The Everton footballer sat down with the ECHO's Ryan Paton to discuss his new photobook, Life With Everton, which features behind the scenes images from his debut season with the Toffees

The 24-year-old was inspired to take up photography two years ago and his passion has only developed since he moved to Merseyside

Rohl has opted to live in the heart of the city in Aigburth and found this has helped him truly understand what it means to live in Liverpool and play for Everton

He said: "When you join Everton, you need to understand how the club works, how all the goals from the people around the club are. That's why I really like to live in Liverpool, because I experience so much nice conversations with people around Lark Lane or Sefton Park or other areas in the city. That's why I really think it helps me to live here to understand the club and to understand where the people come from."

Rohl enjoys his interactions with Evertonians and laughed the main shout he receives from people when he is recognised in the street is "Up the Toffees"

While he is now comfortable in Liverpool, it wasn't always easy as Rohl opened up on his settling in problems with moving to a new country where the weight of expectation was much more intense.

The German now couldn't be happier at Everton and discussed his favourite position as he is happy to play at right back or centre midfield, as long as he is helping the team
