Emiliano Martinez was stretchered off during Chelsea's clash with Everton following a nasty collision with defender Jarrad Branthwaite. The incident occurred around the hour mark, with play halted for a lengthy period as medical staff attended to both players.
The incident followed a free-kick for the hosts, with Martinez and Branthwaite both challenging for the ball before colliding heads. Both players received medical attention on the pitch, but Martinez was ultimately stretchered off.
The Argentine was seen awake and moving as he was carried off at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, while Branthwaite was able to continue playing.
Providing an update on TNT Sports, commentator Darren Fletcher confirmed Martinez was being taken to hospital.
"Only news we can bring you and bring you today is that he's been taken away to hospital which is the best place possible," he said. "Emi Martinez on his way to hospital in Liverpool."
Mike Penders, 21, came on to replace Martinez, making his Premier League debut in the process.
Chelsea were already ahead before the incident, with Pedro Neto having put the visitors in front less than a minute after the restart of the second half. The Portuguese then doubled his tally in stoppage time.
