Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has offered an update on Emiliano Martinez’s condition after he suffered a nasty injury against Everton.
The experienced goalkeeper collided with Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite while coming to claim a cross.
Play was stopped for a lengthy break as the two players received medical treatment on the pitch.
Branthwaite was back on his feet and able to continue, but Martinez was carried off on a stretcher after being fitted with a neck brace.
Mike Penders replaced the 34-year-old and kept the clean sheet intact. Alonso subsequently provided an update on Martinez’s condition.
He told TNT Sports: “As far as I know, he left the stadium conscious – he’s in the hospital doing precautionary tests. Let’s see. This is all I know so far.”
Pedro Neto scored twice in the second half to ensure that Chelsea secured victory at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The Blues have claimed back-to-back league wins, climbing to fourth in the standings ahead of the 3.00 pm kick-offs.
Chelsea were on a three-match winless run before the extended international break, but they have bounced back to form in recent games.
They will bid to continue their winning ways at home to Tottenham Hotspur next Saturday.
