Everton lost their first game of the season to Chelsea this afternoon.
David Moyes was heavily criticised for his team selection and substitutions, with Merlin Rohl getting the nod on the right wing over Tyrique George.
Everton were really blunt in attack, and the game was crying out for a bit of quality in the final third, which Tyler Dibling could’ve brought.
Moyes opted for Brennan Johnson instead, and that change was completely ineffective, so the Scotsman certainly has to take some responsibility for the defeat.
With that said, I’ve picked out the five best comments on TalkingPoints which sum up the game well.
It's a first defeat of the season for Everton as they lose 2-0 to Chelsea 😡 Give us YOUR reaction 👇
We don't have to focus on playing without a 9 cause we already are but given what we're being served up with on the wings it won't matter
There has to be something going on between moyes and dibling how a player gets MOM against Ipswich let's see iff he gets his chance week after that 2nd half performance
Probably not but given what Barry is doing time after time when a child could score that might be a good thing as we could focus on playing without a no9 or even grow confident enough to give the service without worrying it would be wasted possession 🤫
Everton fans react to the 2-0 loss to Chelsea
Brogan felt Thierno Barry should’ve got himself on the scoresheet as he continues to blow hot and cold for Everton this season.
Just no quality in front of goal. Barry simply HAS to score that header
Ptrckbennett felt 2-0 was a harsh scoreline and he quite rightly highlighted James Tarkowski’s performance, as the towering centre-back didn’t deserve to be on the losing side today.
Definitely not the scoreline the game deserved! (0-1 tbf) Tarky what a display MOTM all day long! Barry really?? what’s the point??? Noorgard not a mile off it (more like 5miles) God do we need someone, anyone up front!!!💙💙💙
Jamie.theodosi felt a clean sheet was never a likely outcome today, so the Toffees should’ve been more ambitious going forward.
Not an entirely surprising result despite Everton’s record. Chelsea are one of the most dangerous teams in the league going forward. If you can’t keep up with them in your own attacking play then you’ll likely find yourself chasing the game
Callum_jones and Freddie were far from impressed by Christian Norgaard’s debut as he looked miles off the pace. In fairness, the summer signing is only just coming back from injury, and it was a bizarre moment for Moyes to bring him off the bench.
He looked so off it, but he has been out for a while!
It’s now back to the drawing board for Moyes and his players before they return to action on Saturday afternoon against the reigning Premier League champions Arsenal.
The Merseysiders are away from home at the Emirates, so it’s probably the toughest fixture of the season.
Although, Everton gave them a cracking game last year and were unlucky to lose, so they have good reason to be confident of getting a result in the capital.
