**Renee Slegers says Arsenal Women were not ruthless enough in front of goal after being held to a 1-1 draw by Birmingham City.**
Arsenal again found themselves behind before Olivia Smith equalised in the second half.
But the Gunners could not find a winner as they continued what has been a disappointing start to the news season.
“We are in a scenario that we’ve had too many times this season,” Slegers said.
“Then we have to chase the goal and there’s so much pressure on us.
“Liv then scores for 1-1, which was good, then we have a lot of shots, 27 I think, but not enough on target, so we’re not ruthless enough in those moments.
“So it’s still about how we set up the best possible chances for ourselves, which we didn’t do well enough today.”
With a north London derby coming up next, Slegers remains confident Arsenal can respond.
“The next game is always the next opportunity,” she said.
“\[It’s good\] that we always keep going and that we rise after setbacks, which we’ve done and we know that about the team.”
The Arsenal boss also praised the mentality and desire shown by her players, while stressing the need to stop giving themselves so much work to do.
“We just need to put ourselves in better positions earlier so that’s not necessary every time, because it takes energy from the team having to play those scenarios,” Slegers said.
“But yes, the team has been brilliant.
“Like I said, the urgency, the willingness, the desire in the second half was really good.”
