Denver Nuggets guard Julian Strawther, the former Gonzaga standout, will be sidelined indefinitely after spraining his left knee earlier this week during a preseason game, the team announced Friday night.
Strawther will be re-evaluated in six weeks, the Nuggets said.
The 24-year-old sustained the injury during Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers. Strawther was tripped up and fell while attempting to drive, and his leg bent awkwardly as he fell on it. He stayed down on the court for a moment before being helped to the locker room.
Strawther is projected to be a key player off the bench for the Nuggets this season. He started a career-high 14 games last year and made 57 appearances, averaging 7.2 points, two rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.
The 6-foot-6, 205-pound Strawther was selected by Denver with the 29th overall pick of the 2023 NBA draft after starting 68 games for the Zags during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. He has played in 172 games for the Nuggets.
