The New Orleans Pelicans have made significant roster decisions ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season, waiving guard Kobe Bufkin and forward Jalon Moore as the franchise continues shaping its lineup for the upcoming campaign.

Bufkin’s New Orleans Stint Comes to an End

Bufkin, who was selected 15th overall by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2023 NBA Draft, was unable to secure a permanent place on New Orleans’ roster.

During three preseason appearances with the Pelicans, the 23-year-old averaged 5.0 points and 1.0 rebounds in 7.8 minutes per game.

Across his NBA career with Atlanta and the Los Angeles Lakers, Bufkin has appeared in 43 games, averaging 4.2 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists per contest.

Summer League Performance Offered Encouragement

Despite his latest setback, Bufkin showed flashes of his scoring ability during the 2026 NBA Summer League. He delivered an impressive 30-point performance in New Orleans’ opening game, also recording six rebounds, two assists and one block.

However, his strong summer showing ultimately did not translate into a lasting roster spot. Bufkin had also spent time in the NBA G League and received opportunities with multiple organizations.

Moore Also Released as Roster Takes Shape

Moore was waived alongside Bufkin after appearing in three Summer League games, where he averaged 6.0 points and 4.0 rebounds. His development has also been affected by a torn Achilles tendon suffered before the 2025 NBA Draft.

Following the moves, New Orleans has 18 players on its roster, including three two-way players. Both departures highlight the competitive nature of securing a place in the NBA as teams finalize their lineups.
