Duncan Ferguson has been out of work since leaving Inverness Caledonian Thistle in 2024.
The former Everton centre-forward was sacked by the Scottish second division side due to a financial crisis.
Duncan Ferguson has been working in punditry since then and was part of ITV’s coverage at the World Cup.
Now, there is some interesting news breaking that Ferguson is set to return to the dugout and land his next job.
It's a first defeat of the season for Everton as they lose 2-0 to Chelsea 😡 Give us YOUR reaction 👇
Moyes is embarrassing, hall isn't a10. sit down and think other than hold on to the ball, but then pass back what does grealish do? Our teams reflect the manager. Nervous boring timid, yesterday the game crying out for drive and creativity from midfield. He brings on a injured defensive mid with no legs. The poor lad didn't have a chance.
Very solid, chelsea did not look like a team that hadn’t kept a clean sheet since jan. Might say more about everton’s attack
Agree 100% Keane would be the very, very, very last option for many reasons but if it came down to it maybe it would work wonders and sometimes a real wake up call is really needed 💙💙
Duncan Ferguson set to become Glentoran manager
According to the Belfast Telegraph, Ferguson is on the verge of being named Glentoran manager.
Glentoran ply their trade in the top flight of Northern Ireland and currently reside third in the table, behind Linfield in second and the league leaders Coleraine.
Glentoran joint interim manager Tim McCann spoke to Sportsround about Ferguson’s imminent arrival and explained there’s a ‘real buzz’ around the club.
“It’s a change and it’s caused a real buzz,” McCann stated. It is great for the Irish League as well.
“It’s always difficult for managers coming from the outside, but listen, someone with that stature and that presence, that knowledge, that experience, as being a top pro and international player and all that comes with it, it’ll be a vital experience and I think it’ll be great.”
Ferguson will be one of the most high-profile managers in the league’s history, so all eyes will be on Glentoran’s results this term.
His first game could be on Saturday, October 24th, as his team play host to sixth-placed Ballymena United.
Former Glentoran captain Colin Nixon is a bit concerned about Ferguson’s lack of experience in Northern Irish football.
“What an exciting appointment, exciting for the league and exciting for Glentoran. It’s quite unbelievable but exactly what Glentoran need at the minute.
“In the back of my mind I worry what does he know about the league, but if he keeps the boys in the coaching positions they’re in that will help.”
