Over nine years in the NBA, Celtics star Jayson Tatum has experienced countless unforgettable moments. From NBA draft day to his first All-Star game, the 6’8″ forward has done a lot of things worth celebrating. Out of all his basketball moments, however, there’s one that stands above the rest: the 2024 championship parade in Boston.

It came after Tatum’s first championship, which instantly elevated his status among franchise greats. Despite averaging 22.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game in the series, he was not named the Finals MVP, but it hardly affected what came after. According to Tatum, that championship parade is the highlight of his career and something he’s determined to experience again.

“I’ve been on record as saying that the parade was the best day of my life, and I can’t wait to do it again,” said the Celtics star at the Tatum 5 launch party.

A championship parade is always a major event, and it was no different for the Celtics that year. They hadn’t actually won a title since 2008, and the city treated Tatum like a hero for his role in bringing it back to Boston. It was only appropriate that they rewarded him with a lavish parade celebration, where thousands of fans gathered to show their support. Jaylen Brown even lost a ring in the excitement.

Unfortunately for the Celtics, that moment is nothing but a memory now. Due to a mix of factors that include rising competition, injuries, and trades, they find themselves in a state of uncertainty going into the new season. The good news is, Tatum is finally in a normal rhythm after that Achilles tear a while back, and he is excited for what the future may bring.

“Reflecting on where I was at this time last year, and how tough that was for me. Last year was like abnormal for me, and now I’m getting back into the rhythm and the flow of just like a normal NBA season,” said Tatum. “I’m excited for the process of it.”

Tatum was in a dark place after his Achilles tear, and it was unclear if he would ever be the same player again. That’s why his return was so crucial, in that it proved he can still deliver at a high level. The only question is, can the Celtics take advantage of his return and reclaim their status as contenders?

Following the trade that sent Jaylen Brown to the 76ers, many fans and analysts are still unsure what to make of the Boston Celtics. As currently constructed, they are undeniably deep, but there are doubts about whether they have enough firepower to contend with the likes of the Knicks, Cavaliers, and Raptors (among other teams).

Only time will tell how these new-look Celtics stack up, but Tatum has already experienced the apex of basketball success, and he’s eager to experience that again. While he may not have Jaylen Brown or Jrue Holiday to lean on, he at least has good health, which is more than he could say a year ago.
