Liverpool U21s picked up an important three points on Saturday as they secured a late 1-0 victory over Reading in Premier League 2.
Rob Page’s side had to be patient at the Kirkby Academy, with neither team able to find a breakthrough for much of the contest.
However, the young Reds left it until stoppage time to snatch the win and claim all three points.
Liverpool were able to call upon a strong side for the fixture, with five of their starting XI having dropped down from the substitutes’ bench for the senior team’s Champions League game against LASK in midweek.
The match report stated that the hosts struggled to turn their possession into a goal and looked set to settle for a point as the game entered its closing stages.
There was also a moment of concern when Mor Talla Ndiaye conceded a penalty after a foul inside the box.
Thankfully, Liverpool goalkeeper Bailey Hall came to the rescue, denying Torin Ntege from the spot to keep the scores level.
With both sides searching for a late winner, Liverpool finally found the breakthrough in injury time.
A free-kick was delivered towards the right-hand side, where Oliver O’Connor produced an excellent cross into the penalty area.
One Liverpool player rose above the Reading defence and powered a downward header into the net to seal a dramatic victory.
The goal-scorer was Mor Talla Ndiaye, who joined Liverpool in January 2026 and has now scored his first league goal for the club.
Redemption for the young man.
The Senegalese centre-back now has two goals in total since arriving at Anfield after notching his first in September against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Youth League.
Scoring a stoppage-time winner is always a special moment, and the defender could hardly have picked a better time to open his league account for the Reds.
