Alexander Isak has outlined his delight at scoring another winning goal for Liverpool after he decided a tight clash away at Brentford on Saturday.

Liverpool was a goal behind when Yehor Yarmoliuk was sent off for a headbutt on Jeremy Jacquet. Victor Munoz leveled when he was sent toward goal by Florian Wirtz, before Isak then popped up with a clinical moment.

So far this term, Isak has scored five goals in the Premier League, meaning only Erling Haaland has more. The Liverpool number nine has been the match-winner every time the Reds have emerged victorious in the league so far.

"Super-happy with the win," Isak told club media. "It's a tough ground; it's a tough team to play, especially away from home.

"We knew it was going to be a fight, a bit of a scrappy game, and it's important to come out on top in these games.

"It was more about concentration because I didn't have too many chances. I was kind of waiting for my moment, and that was the one."

Isak's goal was instinctive and while he didn't do much else in the game, that is the reason that Liverpool was prepared to pay $169 million (£125 million) to sign him from Newcastle last summer.

"I just tried to get control of the ball and finish as quickly as possible, and luckily, it went in," he described.

"When they go a man down, obviously they protect their goal a bit more, so there's not much space to play in. You've got to be ready for when the chance pops up. There's still lots to improve but we're taking steps."

Liverpool posted a clip on social media of the moment that Isak bagged the winner at the Gtech Community Stadium, with fans agreeing in the comments.

Several described the Swede as a "proper striker", while another pointed out "that’s what you pay the big bucks for", with Isak praised for being "clinical" and "lethal".

Liverpool.com says: Isak staying fit is central to the Reds going anywhere fast this season. With a world-class number nine in the team like him, Iraola's progress will be fast-tracked.

That is no slight on Lewis Koumas, who has stepped in admirably. But Isak is another level entirely, and it is vital that he remains in the team as often as possible.
