A lot can happen in a year.
From winning in Brazil over the Chiefs to begin the 2025 season to now facing the Chiefs without a single win in Week Six. This type of shift in franchise trajectory usually takes more than a calendar year, but most franchises are not the Chargers.
It’s not often that you go one year without your star left tackle and only a handful of games from your budding star on the right side, then have both players out together once again before Week Five arrives. That’s already a massive hill to climb, but it’s easier when the offensive system is still the one you’ve been in for longer than one season. Without that to fall back on, it’s a bit harder to keep slogging forward through the obstacles that seem to be popping up around every corner.
That’s the Chargers experience this season. A near-elite defense playing without one of its biggest stars for half the season thus far and an offense that couldn’t figure out its identity after an entire offseason. Now they’re tasked with doign just that against one of the NFL’s best.
The NFL can be full of surprises week-to-week. Maybe this one has a big one in store for the Chargers (in a good way, of course).
