Ben Simmons finally broke his silence after his heartbreaking torn Achilles injury was announced on Sunday for the Sacramento Kings.
In an Instagram story, Simmons strongly vowed to bounce back from another devastating development in his career.
"I’ve faced challenges before that tested me mentally, physically, and emotionally, and I’ve found a way through every single one of them. This injury is another chapter in my journey, not the end of my story," Simmons wrote.
"It’s never easy being away from the game I love, especially after everything it took to get back here. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that adversity doesn’t define you. How you respond to it does."
"I’ve been knocked down before, and I’ve always found a way to get back up. This time will be no different."
Ben Simmons sustains torn Achilles, to miss whole 2026-27 season for Kings
The Sacramento Kings confirmed Sunday that Ben Simmons sustained a torn right Achilles tendon.
This effectively ends what could have been a massive NBA comeback for the former All-Star heading to next week's opening night.
Simmons returned to the NBA after skipping the whole 2025-26 season to redeem himself and rest from injuries. He signed a one-year deal with the Sacramento Kings after impressing them in his team workout last offseason.
He played in three preseason games for the Kings and showed promise in the team's exhibition finale last Friday against the San Antonio Spurs, dropping 14 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists in 26 minutes.
The former No. 1 pick fought injury issues in recent years. A back complication significantly impacted his All-Star status.
While it remains unknown what might be next in his NBA career, Simmons is still keeping his head high to push through despite the brutal injury.
