The Sacramento Kings didn't receive the best news days before the start of the season after Ben Simmons suffered a torn Achilles in the team's latest practice. It was a comeback season for Simmons after sitting out last year, and now he'll be focusing on rehab.
After the news surfaced, Simmons wrote a powerful statement on Instagram about the injury.
“I’ve faced challenges before that tested me mentally, physically, and emotionally, and I’ve found a way through every single one of them,” Simmons wrote. “This injury is another chapter in my journey, not the end of my story.
“It’s never easy being away from the game I love, especially after everything it took to get back here. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that adversity doesn’t define you. How you respond to it does. I’ve been knocked down before, and I’ve always found a way to get back up. This time will be no different.”
Simmons has battled injuries throughout his career, and he sat out last season to get his body and mind right. It's a tough blow for this to happen to him right before the start of the season, but this should only make him stronger as his career continues.
It was supposed to be a solid season for Simmons, and it looked like the Kings were ready to put him in the starting lineup alongside Darius Acuff Jr. Now, he'll be making most of his impact off the court, where he could be a good veteran for the rookie point guard.
