Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets will begin their new NBA season with one of their key bench pieces set to finally play.
Spencer Jones is on track to suit up in the Nuggets' season opener on Thursday against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
"We're working our way to the game. I wouldn't say it's 100% confirmed, but that's how I'm taking it," Jones told reporters after being a participant in the Nuggets' Sunday practice. "As long as everything goes well in terms of our progression, that's been the plan for a while.
"It felt good out there, so we'll gradually build it up and be ready for our first game."
Spencer Jones set to play for Nuggets after hamstring injury
Spencer Jones sustained a left hamstring strain during the Denver Nuggets' team practices. As a result, he did not play in the team's entire preseason slate.
As the Nuggets gave him time to fully recover, Jones is now poised to be on the court and help the team ahead of next week's opening night.
Jones stands as one of the reliable wing units for Denver. He established his role within the title contender last season, where he averaged 5.5 points and 3.2 rebounds in 22.1 minutes of action for 64 games (37 starts).
Jones rejoined Denver this past offseason via a two-year, $11.7 million deal after the Nuggets matched the Oklahoma City Thunder's contract offer as a restricted free agent.
