Dub Nation held its breath as the Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry rolled his ankle in the team’s open practice tonight. De’Anthony Melton guarded the 38-year-old star when Curry tweaked his right ankle.
In a scary sight for the Warriors’ fans in attendance, Stephen Curry hobbled back to the Warriors’ locker room midway through practice.
Steve Kerr said that Steph Curry is “fine” after spraining his right ankle.

NBA fans were left in disbelief as this injury could significantly derail already dwindling playoff hopes, let alone a championship run. They flooded social media with messages about how Curry’s injury could severely impact the team.
“There goes the first depression kick of the season. S–t hasn’t even started & we’re already getting bad news.”
“Yo, genuinely, wtf is going on? Everybody is getting injured right before the season starts.”
“Maybe next year, Curry… take this season off.”
“Bro, any chances of the Warriors getting somewhat of a good start are gone now, lol.”
“End the season already. Some voodoo s–t going on.”
After practice, the team confirmed Stephen Curry sprained his right ankle. However, Steve Kerr offered an encouraging update. He said he spoke with the 38-year-old in the locker room and confirmed he’s ‘fine’.
According to Anthony Slater, ESPN’s senior Warriors writer, the team still hasn’t decided how this affects Curry’s status for the 2026-27 regular season opening night against the Los Angeles Lakers (Wednesday, October 21).
“There is no immediate word on Curry’s status, but a team source reiterated the ankle tweak is ‘not serious,'” Slater reported.
The Warriors’ season has already been plagued with injuries and health issues. First, they lost Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody, who likely won’t return before the All-Star break this season, and then lost Kristaps Porzingis earlier this month with an indefinite timeline.
A long-term injury to Curry would have been the final nail in the coffin of the Warriors’ season before it even began. Fortunately for the Warriors fans, Curry isn’t expected to be out long.
“Always. Always,” said Kerr on whether his heart skipped a beat seeing Stephen Curry limp off the floor. “He’s fine. I went and talked to him after he went downstairs, and I went into the training room,” Kerr added.
The Warriors’ fans can relax for now because Curry’s ankle sprain doesn’t seem serious. However, his availability status is still unknown, as opening night against the Lakers is less than three days away.
Stephen Curry’s comeback will be a key storyline going into the 2026–27 season because the Golden State Warriors cannot afford another setback. For now, it remains to be seen if Curry will start for the Warriors on October 21.
