Antwi is a 19-year-old right-back who came through the Chelsea academy and could become the long-term successor to club captain Reece James. The youngster has impressed at Strasbourg this season, but he was taught a harsh lesson against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday.

How Strasbourg’s PSG defeat exposed the challenge facing Genesis Antwi
Strasbourg took the lead against PSG in the 17th minute when Chelsea transfer target Gessime Yassine assisted Giovani Reyna. Blues loanee Genesis Antwi contributed to the goal by pressing high and forcing a turnover.
Strasbourg held their lead until the 77th minute, when Illia Zabarnyi was left unmarked at the back post to meet an Ousmane Dembele cross. Zabarnyi found space between Antwi and Karim Coulibaly, as both defenders were focused on marking other players.
Antwi had little to do with Dembele’s 85th-minute strike, but he could have done more to prevent Desire Doue’s goal in added time. The Chelsea prospect was caught in no man’s land between marking Doue and making a goal-line clearance as PSG completed their late comeback.
The result does not change the fact that Antwi’s loan spell has gone well so far, but Strasbourg’s collapse will provide an important learning curve. If the full-back hopes to break into Chelsea’s first-team squad next season, he will need to continue polishing his game throughout the campaign.
