Liverpool and Arsenal are both showing strong interest in Brentford winger Kevin Schade, according to reports.

TEAMtalk claim the pair began to monitor the German international at the back end of the summer transfer window, and they have continued to track his progress this season.

Brentford are, however, keen on keeping hold of Schade, and it is believed they would “demand more than £60m” if a team makes an approach in January.

Schade’s contract situation could be key

Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas reported at the end of last month that Brentford are trying to tie down the 24-year-old to a new contract.

The reliable journalist also mentioned at the time that the Reds, the Gunners and “other big clubs” were keeping an eye on Schade’s situation.

The forward will have just 18 months left on his current deal in January, and if he doesn’t put pen to paper on an extension, his value will begin to depreciate. A sale in January, therefore, cannot be ruled out.

Liverpool want to buy another winger

The pursuit of Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh and Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr clearly showed that the club were hoping to add another wide player to the first-team squad. However, there was an assumption that a new addition was dependent on Cody Gakpo’s exit.

For that reason, it remains to be seen how serious the interest in Schade is. He is yet another right-footed winger who prefers to play off the left wing. Manager Andoni Iraola already has four (including Gakpo, Bradley Barcola, Victor Munoz and Rio Ngumoha) who favour that flank.

In that context, you do wonder whether the Reds would actively pursue Schade in January if Brentford make it clear that he’s available.
