Match Officials: Willy Delajod to referee Manchester City vs AEK Athens (UEFA Champions League)

UEFA have confirmed a predominantly French team of match officials to oversee Manchester City's Champions League clash with AEK Athens on Tuesday night.

Enzo Maresca and his players will be aiming to return to winning ways in European competition by defeating the Athenian outfit in midweek duties after a dramatic 2-4 home defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on matchday two.

The French giants and reigning champions of the competition raced into a 0-3 lead within the opening 30 minutes, before a trio of half-time substitutions from Maresca inspired City and brought the side much closer to one of the greatest comebacks seen.

A brace from Erling Haaland followed suit, either side of a fourth for the visitors courtesy of Maghnes Akliouche, while manager Luis Enrique admitted after the contest that he felt as though his side were fortunate to come away with all three points in the end.

Manchester City did manage to respond with a win over the weekend, defeating Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town thanks to a 3-2 scoreline and two further goals from Erling Haaland alongside a strike from Phil Foden - his first goal in 307 days for the club.

That game saw a Zian Flemming penalty on the stroke of full-time adding nerves to what should have been a comfortable ending for City as they led 3-1, before 12 minutes of additional time forced Maresca's players to remain concentrated right until the very end.

Now, ahead of the meeting between Manchester City and AEK Athens, UEFA have announced the list of match officials to oversee proceedings at the Etihad Stadium!

Match Referee

Overseeing matters between Manchester City and AEK Athens at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night from the position of match referee will be French match official Willy Delajod, UEFA have confirmed.

The 34-year-old will be taking his 10th match of the 2026/27 season across all competitions, having overseen fixtures in Ligue 1, the UEFA Champions League and its qualification phase, UEFA Nations League A, and UEFA Europa League qualification.

In nine matches so far this season, Delajod has issued a total of 26 yellow cards, no second yellow cards or straight red cards, and awarding just one penalty across those fixtures.

Despite his wealth of experience across all of European football's biggest competitions, Tuesday night will mark the very first time that Willy Delajod has overseen a match involving Manchester City.

Assistant Referees

Supporting and accompanying Willy Delajod at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night will be fellow French match officials Erwan Finjean and Valentin Evrard, appointed as the game's assistant referees.

Video Assistant Referees

Watching over Manchester City against AEK Athens from the VAR room will be Video Assistant Referee Bram Van Driessche of Belgium, seated alongside Assistant Video Assistant Referee Christian Dingert of Germany.

Fourth Official

Managing proceedings between the two dugouts of Manchester City's Enzo Maresca and AEK Athens' Marko Nikolic will be French match official Bastien Dechepy - the game's appointed fourth official.
