Mark Ulriksen’s “Make It Two”

The Knicks lean in for a huddle break at the beginning of a new season.

For the cover of the October 26, 2026, New Yorker Festival Issue, the artist Mark Ulriksen painted a joyous image of Mikal Bridges, Josh Hart, OG Anunoby, Jalen Brunson, and Karl-Anthony Towns, the New York Knicks’ starting lineup. This month, for the first time in fifty-three years, the beloved N.B.A. franchise will hang its championship banner at Madison Square Garden. The team’s 2026 title ended a drought that began after a victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, in 1973. “Their playoff run was one for the ages,” Ulriksen said. His earlier cover from this spring celebrated that stretch. “I now rejoice in celebrating the starting five that finally brought the crown back to New York City.”
