City welcome AEK Athens to the Etihad Stadium just three days after beating Ipswich Town in the Premier League, where goals from Phil Foden and Erling Haaland enabled a 3-2 victory.

In beating the Tractor Boys, Maresca became the first manager in Premier League history to win his first seven games at the helm, a feat that even the legendary Pep Guardiola didn’t achieve at the club.

Important wins against the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Sunderland have placed Manchester City at the top of the league table, three points ahead of last season’s champions, Arsenal.

However, there were a handful of injury concerns at the end of the game against Ipswich Town, most notably Semenyo, who was seen limping off the pitch at full-time after coming on for Jeremy Doku in the 77th minute.

Semenyo out for up to eight weeks, confirms Maresca ahead of AEK Athens test

Speaking ahead of Manchester City's UEFA Champions League clash with Athens, Maresca said: “In the first moment, we expected an even worse injury. We were more worried. But after yesterday's scan, we feel much better because it's not so big like we expected.

“It could be eight weeks, so now in this moment the most important thing for him is to recover and when he's back, around December, we have a new player in terms of energy.

This is a developing story. More to follow.
