‘I know your dad and he was better’: Aaron Rodgers roasts Bucs rookie Josiah Trotter

Aaron Rodgers

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (8) looks in the distance after being taken down by Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II (97) in the fourth quarter of the NFL Week 3 game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers, Sunday, Sept. 27, 2026, at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is in his 22nd NFL season, which means he’s been around long enough to have played against the fathers of some of the players now chasing him. And on Sunday, he made sure one of them knew it.

After Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie linebacker Josiah Trotter got in his face during the first half of Sunday’s game, Rodgers responded with a smile and dished out some brutal trash talk, telling Trotter that he knew his dad, and that his dad “was better.”

Steelers Rally Past Bucs

Rodgers had the last laugh on the scoreboard, too. The Steelers trailed 16-3 in the fourth quarter, but they rallied to force overtime before Rodgers hit Germie Bernard for a game-winning touchdown in a 26-19 victory at Raymond James Stadium.

Rodgers finished 33-of-49 passing for 253 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. The win moved Pittsburgh to 4-2, while the Bucs fell to 1-5.

After the game, Rodgers also called the grass at Raymond James Stadium “one of the worst surfaces in the league.”

‘He Was Better’

Trotter came after Rodgers following a pass rush during the first half, but the 42-year-old quarterback didn’t seem bothered. Instead, he smiled and fired back.

“I know your dad and he was better,” Rodgers told Trotter, in a clip shared by Pardon My Take.

Trotter’s father, Jeremiah Trotter, was a four-time Pro Bowl linebacker who played in the NFL from 1998 to 2009, mostly with the Philadelphia Eagles. He was a first-team All-Pro in 2000, and he even spent the 2007 season with the Buccaneers.

Rodgers entered the league in 2005, so he overlapped with the elder Trotter for several seasons.

Josiah Trotter, meanwhile, was a second-round pick by the Bucs in the 2026 NFL Draft, going 46th overall out of Missouri. His older brother, Jeremiah Trotter Jr., is a linebacker for the Eagles.

The clip quickly went viral on social media, racking up more than 1.6 million views on Pardon My Take’s post alone.
