Injury updates issued ahead of European fixtures can clarify the availability of key attacking players for the weeks ahead. A knee problem confirmed as an eight-week absence removes one option from the squad for a significant stretch of matches. The timing means the player will miss a high-profile Premier League meeting that carries extra weight in the title race.
Managers who express relief that a scan has shown the issue is not as severe as first feared still acknowledge the disruption. Recovery becomes the priority, with a return expected around the start of December. The absence is described as unwelcome for the club even if other players remain available.
Doubts over a leading striker are assessed on a day-to-day basis after he limped off at the end of a league win. The possibility of his involvement in the next match is left open while alternatives are considered if required. Those updates shape the immediate plans and the longer-term outlook for the squad.
Enzo Maresca has issued injury updates on Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo. The Manchester City manager confirmed that Semenyo will be out for probably eight weeks with a knee injury sustained against Ipswich Town.
“The rest are more or less all okay, the only one that will be out for probably eight weeks is Antoine,” Maresca said. “In the first moment we expected an even worse injury, we were more worried, but after yesterday’s scan we feel much better. It will be eight weeks, so in this moment the most important thing for him is recovery and when he is back, probably around December, we have a new player in terms of energy. To lose Antoine, or any player, for us is not good.”
The eight-week timeline means Semenyo will miss Manchester City’s Premier League clash with Arsenal. The absence represents a significant boost for Arsenal ahead of the meeting, as the winger has been an important part of City’s attack this season. Haaland’s status remains less clear after he limped away from the pitch following the Ipswich win.
“He can be available, we’ll see, we have a session now. We have some doubts after the game. We’ll see, he was quite good yesterday, better, but we’ll see today,” Maresca said of the striker. The manager indicated that City will try to win their Champions League match against AEK Athens with their best available players.
Semenyo’s absence removes a versatile option who can operate across the attack. Maresca noted that other players can provide solutions if Haaland is not fully fit, including Phil Foden in a central role if required. The priority for Semenyo is recovery so he can return with energy in December.
The confirmation of the eight-week absence places Semenyo out of the Arsenal fixture and several other matches. Arsenal will face a City side without one of their attacking contributors when the two meet. The updates give a clearer picture of the challenges facing Maresca’s squad in the coming weeks.
