Liverpool want to sign superstar but his£600k/week wage must come down

**The Trent Alexander-Arnold rumours are back, with reports claiming that the 28-year-old is a target for the Reds amid his uncertain future at Real Madrid.**

Liverpool are doing well enough under Andoni Iraola, with a sense of identity and excitement returning to Anfield after the doom and gloom of Arne Slot’s second season.

However, links to Alexander-Arnold remain persistent, although I must say getting a closer look at Michael Kayode in the 2-1 win over Brentford on Saturday reminded me that I said in my last article on Trent that Liverpool should sign him instead of Trent.

I get the desire to go back. Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold will always have history, but it’s also complicated. Usually, it’s better to move forward.

[TEAMtalk](https://www.teamtalk.com/liverpool/trent-alexander-arnold-real-madrid-future-liverpool-circle) reports, however, that Liverpool are among a host of clubs interested in bringing him back to the Premier League.

Graeme Bailey writes: _“Trent Alexander-Arnold is considering his future at Real Madrid after growing frustrated with his lack of playing time, with Liverpool among a host of clubs monitoring his situation as the England star’s position at the Spanish giants becomes increasingly uncertain._

_“Alexander-Arnold is happy in Madrid but is growing frustrated by his limited minutes on the pitch, and the situation took another twist on Sunday when Real Madrid faced Sevilla._

_“Despite the England international being available, Real Madrid opted to use Federico Valverde at right-back, despite the Uruguayan normally operating in midfield. That allowed Arda Guler to drop deeper, while Endrick was brought into the attacking line-up._

_“We understands that several clubs are keeping a close eye on developments, with Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City among those monitoring his position. Bayern Munich, now managed by Vincent Kompany, are also understood to be among the clubs keeping tabs on the situation._

_“His salary could prove a significant complication for any potential move, given the financial terms agreed when he joined Real Madrid in 2025.”_

Liverpool should avoid going back for Trent

-------------------------------------------

Not only is he already 28, which typically precludes players from Liverpool’s transfer plans, but he’s also just such a risk defensively, and after getting a taste of what a solid defensive right-back looks like with Ronald Araujo shining, I think it’s best for the Reds to keep their distance.

As Bailey mentions, his salary is also problematic.

Capology data suggests that Alexander-Arnold is earning a salary worth €31m between his fixed wage of €16.m/year and €15m/year in bonuses, which equates to around €600k/week (£500k/week).

That’s the kind of money Liverpool should be offering Michael Olise, not Alexander-Arnold.
