Texas jumped out to a 17-3 lead over Florida on Saturday, but the Gators scored the next 24 points to pull off a 27-24 upset in Austin, the Longhorns’ second consecutive loss. After the game, Texas quarterback Arch Manning, who entered the season as the favorite to go No. 1 overall in the 2027 NFL Draft, has not only found himself on the brink of losing his job, but he’s also faced intense criticism from pundits.
Now, The Ringer’s Van Lathan is adding his voice to the chorus, going as far as to say that Texas would be undefeated if it had former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders instead of Manning.
“Shedeur Sanders is a better college quarterback than Arch Manning,” Lathan asserted on Tailgate The Ringer’s college football podcast. If Texas has Shedeur Sanders at quarterback, college version of Shedeur Sanders, they would be the best team in the country.”
Van has had enough of Arch, and believes if Shedeur Sanders was Texas’s QB1 right now they would be undefeated 👀

“If you watch Shedeur Sanders play in college, you’d be like, of course,” co-host Tate Frazier added.
Co-host Joel Anderson took things a step further.
“If you disagree, I mean, I’m not gonna say you racist, but it’s just like, come on, dog,” Anderson said. “What you talking about, man? Like, what are we talking about here? I know that Shedeur Sanders wasn’t the greatest quarterback in the history of anything, but he was a very good, all-conference-caliber quarterback.”
“They didn’t hold him back. They weren’t afraid of him,” Anderson continued. “They won games on the strength of his arm, and he won 9 games In Colorado, a place where that’s really hard to do that. Like, not very few people have done that in the last 25 years. Yeah, no, Shedeur Sanders is a much better quarterback than Arch Manning.”
The verdict on who Manning is as a quarterback isn’t final yet, and he even has a year of eligibility left if he chooses to return to college football, but it’s clear that at this point, he is not the player he was touted to be.
