Serie A side Juventus confirmed that former Liverpool sporting director Damien Comolli left the club by mutual consent in June 2026.
Comolli was appointed by the Bianconeri a year earlier, initially as general manager before becoming CEO in November 2025.
Tensions between Comolli and Luciano Spalletti had been growing in recent months, despite the manager signing a new contract until 2028 in April.
Disagreements over transfer decisions reportedly contributed to Comolli’s departure, which was confirmed following an extraordinary board meeting. Juventus announced his exit in an official statement.
Comolli has now returned to the spotlight in Italian football, with Pisa Sporting Club announcing his appointment as president and CEO. He will also join the club’s board of directors.
Comolli said: “I am very pleased to join Pisa SC as President and Chief Executive Officer. Under the ownership of Alex Knaster the club has made very impressive progress.
“It shows Pisa SC is an exciting club to join as it definitely has very significant potential for growth, starting with its organisation and a state of the art new training facility. I am looking forward to contributing in every aspect to the next chapter of the Club’s developments. Forza Pisa!“.
Majority shareholder Alexander Knaster said: “After several seasons during which we have seen significant improvements throughout the club, I feel that the time has come for Pisa SC to enter a new phase of its growth and development and I am convinced this can happen under the leadership of Damien who brings a depth of experience and knowledge both on and off the pitch.
“Damien joins Pisa SC on an initial three-year contract. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Giuseppe and Giovanni Corrado who have given so much to the Club and have been the heart and soul of Pisa SC over the last 10 years.
“This is greatly appreciated by the Club, its employees, players, and fans. I am personally very grateful to them for everything they have done and we will always remain friends“.
Comolli joined Liverpool in 2010 but left by mutual consent in 2012. During his time at Anfield, he oversaw a significant spending period that included the signings of Andy Carroll for £35million and Luis Suárez for £22.7million.
Other arrivals during his tenure included Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson, with Liverpool committing a combined £36million to bring the pair to the club.
His appointment at Liverpool marked a return to English football after previously serving as Tottenham Hotspur’s director of football, a role he left in 2008. At Liverpool, Comolli initially worked alongside Roy Hodgson before continuing under Kenny Dalglish.
